Quartz Crystal

CERN will provide with each QPLL ASIC a Quartz Crystal for operation at the LHC bunch crossing frequency (40.0786 MHz ± 11.2ppm). A layout to interconnect the two devices is recommended. Please see the QPLL manual for further details.

The quartz crystals are cut to the specified frequency by Micro Crystal Switzerland. An Inverted mesa AT crystal packaged in CC1F-T1A, SMD package  is used (see Micro Crystal web page for details).

Crystal identification

The production crystals (cut to the LHC frequency and 5.5 pF loading capacitance) are marked with any of the following identifiers:

First production lot

    MC0350
    MC0407
    MC0408
    MC0410
    MC0411
    MC0412
    MC0414

Second production lot (2005)

    MC0414
    MC0518
    MC0520
    MC0523
    MC0529
    MC0530
    MC0536
    MC0538
    MC0539
    MC0541
    MC0543

Other markings correspond either to a different frequency or a different loading capacitance. Please check the identifiers before sending your boards for prototyping or production.
